I repair a lot of amplifiers, and it’s helpful to have a test speaker to quickly plug into amp heads on my bench. For many years I’ve been using a dirt cheap 8″ car subwoofer for testing – it’s 8 ohms, load, 250W, and durable enough to have laying around on the bench. Lately I’ve been thinking about putting this speaker in a small enclosure, and with some free time on Sunday, that’s exactly what I set out to do.
After a quick sketch and a trip to Home Depot, I was ready to start building the box. I used off-cuts to brace the corners, and used #8 x 1 1/4″ screws to put the whole thing together. I want to wrap it with the same green tolex I used in my Univox Rehouse project, since I have some left over.
The front panel that will hold the speaker is a little too snug (I totally forgot to add clearance for tolex + speaker grill). So I will need to do some sanding. Hopefully I can get this guy wrapped up by the end of the week.
